Ryan Gildea's Story - Bronson Healthcare
The staff at Bronson Children's Hospital noticed something unusual while delivering newborn, Ryan Gildea. Tests revealed that he had suffered a stroke in utero, causing a rare brain condition called hydrocephalus.

Fortunately, Ryan could not have been born in better hands. As southwest Michigan’s only children’s hospital, Bronson offers the best trained, and most experienced pediatric specialists in the region, and they were able to save Ryan’s life.

His parents, Scott and Stacy, spent six weeks at the hospital while doctors diagnosed and treated him. From the compassionate staff to the calming atmosphere, everything about Bronson Children’s Hospital was carefully designed to bring comfort to worried families, “They gave us hope and helped us stay positive,” recalled Scott.

Ryan is doing well and continues to receive therapy at Bronson. Each year the Gildeas join friends and family in the Walk Across Kalamazoo fundraising event to show appreciation and give back to the hospital that saved their baby’s life. “We thank God every day that he was born here. It feels good to help.”
