Vince Long's Story - Bronson Healthcare
"I feel 300 percent better!"

Vince Long

In October 2006, Vince Long and his wife were visiting Kalamazoo for a conference. On Sunday morning, Vince woke with what he thought was a bad case of indigestion. He started feeling worse and around 5:30 a.m. an ambulance arrived at the hotel and brought him to Bronson.

"On my way to the hospital, and again when I arrived, everyone kept telling me that I couldn't have wound up at a better place," says Long. "That made me feel really good."

Long was immediately taken to Bronson's Chest Pain Emergency Center (CPEC), the area's first and only accredited center. The latest technology in the state-of-the-art facility ensured that heart experts had the information they needed to determine the cause of the chest pain faster. Long was having a heart attack and needed to be admitted right away.

A week after surgery, Long was released from the hospital. Since he and his wife live about 300 miles away, they stayed at the Hospital Hospitality House of Southwest Michigan for a few days. The Bronson Home Health Care nurses visited several times.

A year later, Long says, "A lot of my aches and pains are gone now. It's good that Bronson caught it when they did."

Long exercised and had a fairly healthy diet prior to his heart attack, so his lifestyle hasn't changed drastically, but it is better. He has lost weight and has improved his diet since his surgery. Plus, Long now realizes the importance of family medical history.

"Coronary heart disease is hereditary in my family," says Long. "This has as much to do with your heart's health as lifestyle and it makes exercise and diet that much more important."

Long says that it is unbelievable how well he and his wife were treated at Bronson. They were so pleased they even sponsored a day at the hospitality house.

"I feel about 300 percent better than last year at this time," says Long.
