A DOT physical assesses vision, hearing, blood pressure, urinalysis, medical history and overall fitness to safely operate a commercial motor vehicle. Documentation is completed to federal standards and provided at the visit whenever possible.
How long is a DOT medical certificate valid?
Most drivers are certified for up to 24 months. Some medical conditions (for example, blood pressure or vision concerns) may require shorter certification intervals and periodic monitoring per DOT rules.
What should employees bring to a work physical?
Employees should bring a current photo ID, a list of medications and doses, eyeglasses or contacts, hearing aids (if used) and any prior test results or clearances. For DOT exams, they should also bring their current certificate and required forms.
How long does a physical exam appointment take?
Most exams are completed in 30–45 minutes. Additional testing such as vision, hearing, or lab work, may extend the visit time.
Where can we schedule exams and how quickly are results available?
Exams are available in Battle Creek, Kalamazoo, Paw Paw and South Haven. Most results and clearance documents are available the same day.
