Pharmacy Residency - Preceptor Profiles
Katie Adrian, Pharm.D., BCPS
Katie Adrian received her Doctor of Pharmacy degree from Ferris State University in 2011. She then completed a one-year residency at Bronson Methodist Hospital. Katie is currently practicing as one of the Adult Medical Unit pharmacists at Bronson. She is also Assistant Residency Director and helps to coordinate the orientation experience, as well as the clinical pharmacy rotation at the end of the residency year.
Tom Blostica, B.S., Pharm.D., BCPS
Tom graduated from Western Michigan University with a bachelor's degree in biomedical science in 2002. He then went on to Ferris State University where he received his Doctor of Pharmacy degree in 2006. Tom then completed a PGY-1 residency at Detroit Receiving Hospital. Tom has worked as a pharmacist in the Emergency Department at Bronson Methodist Hospital since 2006, where he facilitates the emergency medicine rotation for Bronson’s PGY-1 pharmacy residents.
Stacy Brousseau, Pharm.D., BCPS
Stacy Brousseau received her Doctor of Pharmacy degree from Ferris State University College of Pharmacy in 2013. Following graduation, Stacy completed a PGY1 residency at Bronson Methodist Hospital and was subsequently hired on at Bronson as a clinical pharmacist in the Emergency Department. Stacy is a primary preceptor for the residency program, and she also facilitates an Emergency Medicine rotation for Ferris State University pharmacy students. Her professional memberships include ASHP, MSHP/MPA, and WMSHP. Stacy served for several years on the WMSHP Board of Directors, including as president in 2019. She currently serves as the immediate past president of MSHP on their Board of Directors, she is an active member of the MPA Professional and Educational Affairs Committee, and she maintains active involvement in MSHP committee work.
Andrew Bush, Pharm.D.
Andrew Bush received his Doctor of Pharmacy degree from Ferris State University College of Pharmacy in 2023. Following graduation, Andrew completed a PGY-1 residency at Bronson Methodist Hospital. Following residency, he stayed at Bronson and worked as a PRN pharmacist for a year in many areas, including the Bronson Cancer Center, until accepting a position at the Bronson Cancer Center in Kalamazoo in 2025. He currently practices as an Oncology Pharmacist and is one of the preceptors for the oncology elective rotation.
James Curtis, Pharm.D., BCPS
Jim is currently the System Clinical Coordinator, and one of the Trauma/Burn Critical Care Pharmacists at Bronson. In addition to working with the nursing staff in the critical care units, he rounds daily with the multi-disciplinary Trauma Services team and the Neurovascular Team. He has worked for more than 10 years in different critical care areas. He is currently an adjunct faculty member for Ferris State University and precepts students. James also has several active research projects involving post-operative pain management, thromboembolism prevention, delirium and sedation monitoring.
Brandon Evans, Pharm.D.
Brandon received his Doctor of Pharmacy degree from Ferris State University in 2007. He then completed a one-year residency at Bronson Methodist Hospital. Brandon is currently practicing as the Pediatric and Pediatric Intensive Care Pharmacist at Bronson.
Josh Goerge, Pharm.D.
Josh Goerge graduated from the University of Michigan in 2019 with a B.S. in pharmaceutical sciences and received his Pharm.D. from the University of Michigan College of Pharmacy in 2023. He completed a PGY-1 Pharmacy Residency at Bronson Methodist Hospital. Following residency, he stayed at Bronson and works on the Adult Medical Unit as an internal medicine clinical pharmacist. He is also one of the preceptors for the internal medicine rotation.
Elizabeth Graham, Pharm.D.
Elizabeth Graham graduated with her Doctor of Pharmacy degree from Ferris State University College of Pharmacy in 2020. She completed a PGY1 residency at Bronson Methodist Hospital, focusing her elective rotations on ambulatory care. Following her residency, Elizabeth joined the ambulatory care pharmacist team in 2021. She works in both Paw Paw and Three Rivers in primary care practices. Elizabeth precepts residents and students for their ambulatory care rotations, focusing on diabetes, hypertension, various other disease states, and comprehensive medication reviews.
David Gutenschwager, Pharm.D., BCCCP
David received his Doctor of Pharmacy from Wayne State University Eugene Applebaum College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences in 2021. David went on to complete a PGY-1 Pharmacy Practice Residency and PGY-2 Critical Care Pharmacy Residency at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit, MI. Following residency, David was hired at Bronson Methodist Hospital as a clinical pharmacist in the Trauma/Burn Intensive Care Unit and Orthopedic Surgery Unit. David has served as a member of the ACCP Programming Committee and is currently a member of SCCM.
Jesse Hogue, Pharm.D.
Jesse Hogue received his Doctor of Pharmacy degree from Ferris State University College of Pharmacy in 2001 and subsequently completed a one-year residency at Bronson Methodist Hospital. Following the residency and three years working in the Trauma Care and Ortho/Neuro units at Bronson, he moved to a position in the Emergency Department at Bronson, helping develop the Emergency Department Pharmacist position as well as other pharmacy services in the Emergency Department. His current position is as the pharmacy educator for Bronson Methodist Hospital. Jesse is currently the residency program director for Bronson’s PGY1 Pharmacy Residency Program. His professional memberships include ASHP, MSHP, MPA and WMSHP.
Karen Jaslow, Pharm.D.
Karen graduated from Illinois Wesleyan University with a bachelor's degree in biology in 2015. She then received a Doctor of Pharmacy degree from the University of Tennessee Health Science Center, College of Pharmacy, in 2019. After graduation, she completed a PGY1 residency at Regional One Health in Memphis, TN. Karen has been with Bronson Healthcare Group since 2020 as an ambulatory care pharmacist. Karen works under a collaborative practice agreement with providers from her primary care offices in Portage and Kalamazoo to manage chronic conditions, such as diabetes, hypertension, and hyperlipidemia. She is currently a preceptor for students and residents completing their ambulatory care rotations.
Andrew Johnson, Pharm.D.
Andrew graduated from Ferris State University College of Pharmacy in 2010 and completed a 1 year residency at Bronson Methodist Hospital. Following residency, he stayed on with Bronson as a staff pharmacist for one year, then became a cardiology pharmacist. Andrew developed a cardiology rotation in August of 2013 for pharmacy residents and is currently helping develop a CHF clinic with Bronson Advanced Cardiology Specialists. He currently serves on the membership committee for MSHP and is a member of MPA and ASHP.
Whitney Kiel, Pharm.D.
Whitney graduated from Ferris State University in 2013. She then completed her PGY1 residency at Bronson Battle Creek. For the past several years Whitney has been practicing as an ambulatory clinical pharmacist for Bronson. She was a part of the Michigan Pharmacists Transforming Care and Quality (MPTCQ) grant program through Blue Cross Blue Shield/University of Michigan. As a part of MPTCQ, Whitney has been responsible for the growth and development of the ambulatory pharmacy program, which now consists of 9 pharmacists in primary care that spans all three counties in southwest Michigan. She is a primary preceptor for the residency program, and hosts residents for a concentrated one-month, as well as a longitudinal ambulatory rotation. In her practice, her role primarily consists of chronic disease state management services for diabetes and hypertension, as well as performing comprehensive medication reviews. She is active in multiple care management activities at Bronson, and also sits on the Bronson Medical Group™ Controlled Substances Committee.
Hanna Leppanen, Pharm.D.
Hanna Leppanen graduated with her Doctor of Pharmacy degree from Ferris State University in 2021. She started as an intern at Bronson Methodist Hospital in 2017 and transitioned to a PGY-1 resident at Bronson Methodist Hospital following the completion of pharmacy school. She stayed on at Bronson and worked PRN at the Bronson Cancer Center, Infusion Center, and main inpatient pharmacy before getting a full-time job at the Cancer Center for three years. She is currently practicing as a Pediatric and Pediatric Intensive Care Pharmacist.
Becky Maynard, Pharm.D.
Becky received her Doctor of Pharmacy degree from Ferris State University College of Pharmacy in 2009 and completed a one-year residency at Bronson Methodist Hospital. Following residency training, Becky began her career at Ascension Borgess Hospital (now Beacon Kalamazoo), where she practiced in a variety of clinical and administrative roles, precepted pharmacy students from Ferris State University, Midwestern University, and South University, and served as the PGY1 Pharmacy Residency Program director. Becky returned to Bronson Methodist Hospital in 2018 as a clinical pharmacist in the Neurovascular Unit and became the inpatient pharmacy manager in 2021. She has maintained active involvement in professional organizations with membership and committee involvement in WMSHP, MPA/MSHP, and ASHP. Becky has served on the Board of Directors for WMSHP (President in 2016), MSHP (President in 2021), and MPA (currently an MSHP representative), and is a Michigan delegate to the ASHP House of Delegates.
Tyler Monroe, Pharm.D.
Tyler Monroe received his Doctor of Pharmacy degree from Ferris State University in 2010. He started his pharmacy career as an intern with Bronson Pharmacy, and since then has been practicing as one of the clinical pharmacists on the Trauma and Burn Intensive Care Unit and Orthopedic Surgical Unit. He is currently a member of ASHP, MPA, and WMSHP. He is also involved in multiple process improvement committees within the Bronson Healthcare system.
David Montgomery, R.Ph.
Dave graduated from Ferris State University with a bachelor’s degree in pharmacy in 1987. He has experience in long term care pharmacy consulting, independent retail pharmacy, as well as inpatient hospital pharmacy. He practiced in pediatrics, pediatric intensive care, neonatal intensive care, as well as obstetrics. He currently practices as a decentralized pharmacist at Bronson Methodist Hospital providing clinical services to the neonatal intensive care and obstetrics/antepartum units.
Thomas Muma, Pharm.D.
Thomas received his Doctor of Pharmacy degree from Butler University in 2017. He then completed a PGY1 Pharmacy Practice Residency at Bronson Methodist Hospital. Following residency, he stayed at Bronson Methodist Hospital and worked as a Clinical Pharmacist on the General Surgery and Cardiac Surgery units. His current position is the Clinical Pharmacist for the Extended Medical Care Unit as well as the Operational Analytics pharmacist for the Inpatient Pharmacy.
Nathan Punt, Pharm.D.
Nathan graduated from Ferris State University with a Bachelor of Science in 2014. He then received his Doctor of Pharmacy degree from the University of Minnesota in 2019 and completed a PGY1 residency at Bronson Battle Creek Hospital. Following residency, Nathan continued to work throughout the Bronson Battle Creek Hospital until accepting a position at the Bronson Cancer Center in Kalamazoo in 2021. He has special interests in medical oncology and clinical informatics.
Jessie Prociv, Pharm.D., BCACP
Jessie Prociv graduated with her Doctor of Pharmacy degree from Ferris State University College of Pharmacy in 2011. She worked as a retail pharmacist and then went on to complete a one-year ambulatory care focused residency at Battle Creek VAMC in 2014. Following her residency, Jessie then went on to create the ambulatory care pharmacy program at Ascension Borgess where she grew the program to encompass 5 primary care practices and precepted students and residents. Jesse started with Bronson in 2018 as part of the expansion of the ambulatory care group, and precepts residents and students for their ambulatory care rotations focused on diabetes, hypertension, comprehensive medication reviews, and anticoagulation for patients on warfarin. She is a member of ASHP, MPA, and WMSHP, and is involved in several process improvement committees at Bronson.
Julie Schmidt, Pharm.D., BCPS
Julie Schmidt graduated with her Doctor of Pharmacy degree from Ferris State University in 2015. Following graduation, she completed a PGY1 residency at Bronson Methodist Hospital and stayed on at Bronson upon completion. She worked on the Neurovascular Unit for two years before transitioning into her current role on Cardiology, where she rotates on the inpatient floor as well as in the outpatient Heart Failure Clinic. In her preceptor role, Julie helps to coordinate the cardiology rotation for both students and residents. She also coordinates the resident staffing rotation. Julie enjoys being involved in professional organizations and is currently a member of WMSHP, MPA, MSHP, and ASHP. She served for several years on the WMSHP Board, including as President in 2021. She also served for several years on the MSHP Board of Directors. She continues to be actively involved in committee work for both MSHP and MPA.
Jennifer Schultz, Pharm.D., BCPS
Jennifer graduated with her bachelor's degree in pharmacy from Ferris State University in 2002. After graduation, she began practicing at Bronson Methodist Hospital. Jennifer then went on to obtain her Pharm.D. from the University of Colorado in 2007. Her current role is as Pharmacy Information System Coordinator. She is also a decentralized pharmacist covering the pediatric and pediatric intensive care units at Bronson. She is an active participant in the Pediatric Process Improvement Committee, Formulary Committee, Pharmacy Nutrition & Therapeutics, Nursing Informatics, Medical Informatics, Anticoagulation Stewardship Committee, Drug Diversion Taskforce, and Pharmacy Governance.
Troy Shirley, Pharm.D., MBA
Troy Shirley received his doctor of pharmacy degree from Ohio Northern University, completed his pharmacy residency at Grant Medical Center in Columbus, Ohio, and received his MBA from Ohio University. Dr. Shirley's residency had a strong emphasis on ambulatory pharmacy and his first role post-residency training was as a clinical pharmacist with a family medicine program and anticoagulation clinic. Dr. Shirley also completed an ASHP Traineeship on asthma management and the ASHP Foundation Pharmacy Leadership Academy. Dr. Shirley then transitioned to hospital leadership roles with OhioHealth in Columbus, ranging from pharmacy leadership to general hospital operations, and was instrumental in the development and growth of hospital and ambulatory service offerings with a new start hospital in central Ohio. Dr. Shirley has also served as the corporate pharmacy leader for Lakeland Health in St. Joseph, Mich., developing the overall organizational strategy and operational leadership for the pharmacy. Currently, Dr. Shirley serves as the Vice President of Pharmacy Services for Bronson Healthcare with a primary focus on expanding the pharmacy services, clinical nutrition, and home infusion service lines across the system. In addition to his leadership roles, Dr. Shirley has also led pharmacy residency programs; held faculty appointments with Ohio Northern University, Ohio State University, and Ferris State University; was on the board of directors for the Ohio Society of Health System Pharmacists; and served on several not-for-profit community boards including the current board of directors for Milestone Senior Services and the West Michigan Cancer Center. Additionally, he is a lecturer for the University of Wyoming's Master of Science in Health Services Administration program.
Todd Super, Pharm.D., BCPS, BCACP
Todd earned his Doctor of Pharmacy degree from Ferris State University in 2008. He was the inaugural PGY1 resident at Battle Creek Health System in 2010 (now Bronson Battle Creek) and played a vital role in establishing ASHP accreditation for the program. After the residency, he stayed with Bronson Battle Creek as a clinical pharmacist and was preceptor for the Internal Medicine rotation. In 2015 Todd moved to Bronson Methodist Hospital as a Clinical Pharmacist specializing in Cardiology on the Cardiology unit and in the Heart Failure Clinic. He also precepted the cardiology clinical rotation during this time. In 2018 Todd transitioned to a new position with the expanding ambulatory care program and covers several of the Bronson primary care office in Paw Paw where he focuses on chronic conditions such as diabetes, hypertension, and anticoagulation as well as various other outpatient medication complexities. He is currently a preceptor for the ambulatory care rotation and is involved in several process improvement committees and initiatives within the Bronson Healthcare System.
Dean Van Loo, Pharm.D.
Dean Van Loo graduated in 1994 from the University of Michigan with a Doctor of Pharmacy Degree after completing the pre-pharmacy requirements at Calvin College. Dean then completed a PGY1 Pharmacy Residency at Bronson Methodist Hospital. Following this he became a staff pharmacist at Bronson for two years and then clinical coordinator and residency program director. After three years he remained at Bronson but served as a faculty member for Ferris State University, which is his current position. In 2005 he resigned the position of residency director but has remained involved in the residency program. He has been a member of ASHP since pharmacy school and is currently a member of AACP and MPA. He was a board member and president of WMSHP, then board member and president of MSHP as well as a board member of MPA. His main clinical interests are those in infectious diseases but also the full spectrum of internal medicine topics.
Adam Warner, Pharm.D. received his Doctor of Pharmacy degree from Ferris State University in 2013. He then completed a one-year residency at Bronson Methodist Hospital. Adam is currently practicing as the Antimicrobial Stewardship Pharmacist at Bronson.
Natalie Washburn, Pharm.D., BCCCP, FCCM
Natalie Washburn received her Doctorate of Pharmacy from Ferris State University College of Pharmacy in 2015. Natalie went on to complete a PGY1 Pharmacy Residency and PGY2 Critical Care Pharmacy Residency at Eskenazi Health in Indianapolis, IN. After completing her residency training, Natalie joined the team at Bronson Methodist Hospital as a clinical pharmacist in the medical and neurovascular intensive care units. Natalie is an active committee member for the Society of Critical Care Medicine (SCCM) Membership Committee, as well as the SCCM Clinical Pharmacy and Pharmacology Section Membership and Practice Advancement Committees. Locally, she is a member of the SCCM Michigan Chapter and the Western Michigan Society of Health-System Pharmacists.
