Volunteers assist with communications and comfort measures that facilitate customer satisfaction by greeting patients and visitors, interacting with patients, answering questions and providing directions to departments within the facility, making coffee, passing out snacks, warm blankets and magazines. Assist with wheelchair transports if needed. Assist staff as requested.
Volunteers help provide a friendly environment for patients and family members. Greet and escort patients. Assist staff members as requested.
Assists the professional staff as needed when Care-A-Van is sent out for immunizations, screenings, etc. Also used for special events such as fairs and parades.
Volunteers help the nursing staff by folding surgical gowns, putting together packets, running errands, greeting patients and their families.
Volunteers assist customers in finding gifts, run the cash register, help with inventory, pricing, stocking and keeping the shop neat and orderly.
Volunteers provide information to patient's families and visitors about the hospital, patient room information and the Battle Creek area. Responsibilities also include transporting specimens, assists with patient discharges, escorting patients for x-rays and tests, etc. The information desk volunteer is the front line for our hospital and a smiling face and pleasant attitude is very important.
Volunteers sort and organize magazines donated for patient and visitor use, stock and straighten magazine waiting areas throughout the hospital, and gather worn magazines for disposal. All volunteers can participate in this service by donating magazines.
Volunteers are utilized on an as-needed basis for mailings and special events.
Several areas of the hospital require volunteers to assist with clerical duties such as copying, faxing, answering phones. Duties may also include sending out mailings, working on various projects as needed.
Assists patients to dressing rooms and other areas of the hospital as needed. Helps with mailings.
Volunteer Guilds and Special Events
Volunteers also give hours to the hospital by working in several guilds (i.e. nursery, quilting, sewing, tray favors) – for information on the guilds please contact (269) 245-8470. Special events that require workers include fund raisers, installation and award banquets and assistance on other special occasions.
